VI.16.13 Pompeii. December 2007. South wall of workshop and rear-room in south-west corner. According to NdS, the workshop was rather spacious. The walls were whitewashed with a high plastered dado (laterizio) and with red bands on a white background, to imitate the encrustation of white marble slabs. VI.16.13 Pompeii. December 2007. Doorways to three rooms on west side. According to NdS, the room on the left was a small room with opus signinum floor. It was lit by a circular window in the top of the west wall. At the foot of this same west wall, on the floor and also on the sidewalls, one could see the trace left by a very long rectangular form of wooden furniture, that occupied all the lower space from one wall to the other. The room in the centre was a type of small corridor, that received its light from a slit at the top of the west wall. The room on the right had a floor of cocciopesto and walls faced with rough plaster.
In its western wall was a rectangular window and above it the holes for the beams that supported the upper room. Part of the upper room’s west wall still existed, a continuation of that of the room below, with the remains of the painted decoration, consisting of a panel with a white background, showing the representation of a sea-monster preserved by its serpentine tail, and some small dolphins. See Notizie degli Scavi di Antichità, 1908, (p.63)
